Is this by design? I seem unable to see any member profile - including my own - from any of the member name links in the forum, including (in my own case) the 'members online' list on the Forum Home page.

I am definitely logged in.

I seem to remember that the member profile page used to be a good hub from which to send them a message or contact them by other means (had they chosen to display such details). But that could have been a memory of another time, another place.

Details of set-up (if relevant) happily provided on request, web-meister!

Isn't it something to do with recently changed privacy regulations?

Yes again. Read the GDPR topic in this section.

To make profiles public I would have to get all members to agree to it. Well that's the advice I was given.

I always found member profiles really useful.

Not a big problem. You could make it a condition of membership renewal Brian, as long as the data subject’s consent is clear informed and not by a pre ticked box.

With their express permission data sharing is not an issue.

Keep up the good work

Thanks, Brian and Jim Mac. And understood.

Sorry if I made you repeat yourselves.  I don't suppose that 'error message' displayed is editable to provide the reason, so's no-one else has to ask? No? Thought not.

I can change the terms for new members, but how do I get the consent of existing members?

I agree this situation is far from ideal. I don't think I can change that error message though.

Now that this GDPR thing has been around for a bit, maybe I could ask other WebWiz forums what they now do. WebWiz run an information forum for that sort of help.

For myself, as the opening poster, I'm content that I now know the reason (even if I missed a previous statement to that effect!)

I've been seeing some oddities with a new version of Firefox so I just starting to wonder if that was another...

As you were!

How about sending a PM to the person you want details of ? Then they can choose themselves whether to give you personal information so they can.
Otherwise you (and I ) are just snooping.
If you want to give out your info freely just put it on the tag ( signature ) line.

Cheers
Min
