One of the things I do to pass the time is volunteer for the National Trust on the River Wey Navigation. We do various clearing of overgrown vegetation and small maintenance jobs.

So we were looking for some metal posts we thought had been thrown in the canal. Went magnet fishing, but the magnet locked on to something and the string broke.
Went back today with a punt and a ditch rake and fished around for said magnet.

Well we did find something. Don't think my back is going to recover from lifting it out of the water - there were 5 of us.

Anyway if anyone wants a Kawasaki twin in need of a little TLC, please let me know.

GPZ500 by the look of it.  Good bike in its day.  Though I think that day has passed in this case . . .

Alloy frame by any chance? Mostly rotted away. As you can see the only connection between the front forks and the rest of the bike are wires and control cables.

In my youth I paid £10 for a stolen recovered CD175 which had been thrown into a canal.

I only wanted the exhaust but curiosity got the better of me so I replaced the water in the engine with oil, and the water in the tank and carb with petrol. I put the battery off mine on it. Plugs out to pump the water out and then it started 2nd kick!

Still makes me smile and I remember my Dad laughing in disbelief.

The exhaust lasted to the end of my bike's days.
