Nothing to do do with dating. I'm nearly the proud owner of the 1937Model S that was on eBay. Does anyone have any idea where I may find technical info in English on these bikes and indeed, parts? I've found so far is riding instructions for an Alce in Italian on Greg Benders site. I feel this is going to be a steep learning curve! Very exiting though. By the way, the seller has assured me that he will supply a stand to replace the brick in the photo, so that's a start, fingers crossed

Wow, that's brave of you. You won't find anything in English for them. When you buy it, bring it round mine, and I'll give you a lesson if you like! There is a Google singles group somewhere too I believe.

Suggest you learn Italian.
Brian.

Thanks for the info, chaps. I used to be able to speak passable Italian about 20 years ago but with not using it it seems to have left me! No doubt bits will start coming back. This bike is meant to be "on the road, anything working" so we'll see. Of course he could have missed out the word "not" before "anything" either way it will keep me busy over winter.

In my experience of buying bikes from Italy, and indeed testing bikes out there, and including the years I have lived in Italy, you can expect that the bike will be two thirds of what you have been told. The big singles are very robust and can take a fair amount of abuse, but obviously you want most or all of it to be there in the first place.

Great stuff, IM. He looks like the man. That ad is SO Italian isn't it. Your comments on what to expect are just as I thought. We have a few Italian friends and I just love the way of thinking and doing deals. You have to forget every British instinct it seems

I reckon there are loads - just type in "Singles group" and say that you need help with a little Italian and you'll be fine!
