Just something that occurred to me the other day….how many of you have actually met other members of this group who you didn’t know previously? I only wondered because of the general question being asked about the internet killing off face to face conversations. From the locations given by members I know there are several living not a million miles away and I have never seen or met one of them. Are we as people just getting less sociable?

Morning Bob, never knowingly met anyone from the forum. I nearly bumped into Ken once at a pub in Horsehay but that is it. I would be up for a Midlands/borders meet pub lunch or similar if anyone else is up for it? So next to a leave pass from the boss of course.

Whilst I think that it does no harm to have a "nom de plume" on these forums I do think that it would be better for members to disclose their real identities too. I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to and it might stop those few who use the forum for purely mischievous reasons. When I talk to people at rallies I always ask if they have a forum handle, we might be old buddies and not know it! Mr X.

Forum admin know members full names etc, it really is up to the individual if they dont want to use their own name as you have decided not to.  thankfully we have had virtually no issues on the forum.

Only Kate and Guy Wain.

I used to visit Brian Clay often when I had the V50.

Oh and Nigel Billingsley but I don't think he's on here.

The point of the question was to find out if any of us have actual contact with each other or is it all entirely on line? It would be nice to put faces to names but that takes organising, and at that point everyone takes a step backwards! Big smile

I’ve only met a couple of folks from on here, but my experience of forums is actually much broader than that.

I suppose I actively use about 5 forums and my contact list of all forum friends that I’ve met over the years runs to about 150!

I have... issues... in social situations :/  I don't know a lot of people and fewer people want to know me.

That sounded heartfelt.     Shocked

There’s a world of difference between a forum friend and a true close friend.

+1 Chris Thumbs Up (assuming your real name is Chris ;-)  I'd be up for that.

Not sure if you've tried your local MGCGB meets?
I live on the Notts/Derbys/Leics border so tend to pop along to the Leicester area meets in Shepshed and Notts/Derby meet in Newark, plus a number of Warks area events.

Without exception I've found everyone to be friendly and welcoming. Some are on this forum, some aren't, others I suspect are but I don't their handles...

I have a terrible memory for names, but I think (Chris?) we met at Youlgreave last year, at a North Staffs ride out.
If so, I found you friendly and chatty. Nothing wrong with that!

PS. I can't seem to access members profiles anymore to check names...
Pete.

Yes Pete, it is Chris. Currently live in Wellington, Shropshire and ride a 2015 V7 Stone but looking for a property in Mid/North Wales to suit part retirement so no spring chicken! Although willing to try almost anything once. I did go to a local MGGB evening once in Newport when I joined for the first  Guzzi year of Guzzi ownership but I didn't bother renewing and didn't go along to any events - I have a bit more time now though. I am only active on this forum because it is the right blend of information/knowledge, humour and interest and seems to be a broad and welcoming church as they say.
Would be happy to help anyone passing this way if I could or  as previous, meet other forum contributors at a club or non club unofficial event etc. anywhere in the central area ish.
