Unwrapped my C&H mk2 from storage, and wrote a list of things that I’d like to do.
Now a full restoration or keep the patina and spruce it up??? Decisions decisions!! |

Took the 1400 for a spin round the block...Jeez, it's chilly out! As I've mostly been greenlaning on the SWM300 (go anywhere) and Africa Twin (on gravel) recently, I'd forgotten just how heavy the 1400 is. But once rolling, what a lovely ride. Smooth, silky torque. Luv it. But rubbish off road!
Initially a few strange groans from the clutch as it's fed in, but all ok now. It has been stood for 2 months. Hopefully all is well. All bikes now parked for a month as i jet off to the sun. Roll on spring. |

Continuing with the rebuilt of the unloved 09 Stelvio. Today I changed the fluids. Carc and gearbox done came to tighten the sump plug to fill the engine and it just continues to turn. You guessed it, stripped threads. I didn't notice when I drained the oil but it looks as though some sort of resin had been used to secure the plug in the past.
Two choices, get it rethreaded or see if I can get a replacement pan. Guzzibits had a good condition pan at £50 so went with that.

For the stripped thread ..... Try a local engineering company, who could insert a "Time sert" thread repair, like a helicoil but better. I found a local (to me) Cylinder head repair/rebuild company who Time serted the drain plug on my breva for £20 cash.... Worth the outlay for a good spare pan with a sump plug thread that wont strip again...

Took the cali to work yesterday instead of the Honda and noticed the RHS inlet rubber was split and sucking air. The previous owner gave me some bits for the bike so I had a looksee..lo and behold one rubber. 20 minutes later and she ticks over quieter - can't see why the lazy tit didn't just do the job.
Anyway, time to get the tickover sorted as its a bit low at 950rpm.

Took the 850GT out to the cafe at Wellesbourne airfield to meet up with some friends and admire the Vulcan which is parked there.I chilly but enjoyable ride. Then into the workshop to sort out the wiring on the V7 Special which was disturbed when I recently replaced the steering head bearings. The wiring has deteriorated and been repaired over the last 47 years and reminded me that a complete re-wire would be beneficial, when I get around to it!!
