It's not my bike Dave.  Belongs to a friend of mine, but I did most of the resto.  I aim to have a ride to Tadmarton on it this summer.  Lovely little thing though isn't it?  OHC, but no camshaft!

Well I think it's a work of genius.  There's a shaft to drive the valvegear (like a Bevel Ducati), but at the top is a "Face Cam".  It's a circular spinning plate with 2 concentric tracks with little bumps on them.  These drive the rocker arms and open the valves.

Ahh, I see.I think there was a pre-war British bike that used a face-cam to operate the valves, but I'm damned if I can remember what it was.
Anybody ????

Edit. It was Charter Lea, back in 1926.

Chater Lea (no "R"........)

I think the problem with it was lubrication. It's amazing how the poppet valve has survived against the sleeve valve, rotary disc and others which all must have seemed like the answer to everyone's prayers when they came out.

Unfortunately nowt with the Guzzis.

But I did up with fellow BMW guys at Hilltop Motorcycles..The erudite owner and programmer Jeff who normally looks after racing bikes had a tweek with the ECU on my 2017 GSA.

Results
BHP was 100.56 now 116.75
Max torque was 73.57 now 87.95. There was room for significantly more engine performance gains but this boost is considered the safest and best option. And it’s undetectable.

But the real advantage is the improvements smooth out the range and the increased usability. I set the sat nav to avoid motorways and had a great fun ride 100 odd miles home.

Fitted a new exhaust system to the 850GT, the original one was rotten. The new system is all stainless steel, which I at first thought would be rather extravagant. As it turns out it was cheaper than some of the chrome plated options.Pipes from Stein-Dinse and beautifully made silencers from Feked.I couldn't get the complete system from either supplier, strange However, the whole lot fitted together perfectly, unlike some systems I've had in the past, so,being rust proof this system should never need to be replaced
