Had what seemed to be an obvious scam call today and thought it might be useful to pass the number it came from on to the local scourge of the criminal classes.

Did I expect blues and twos with clanking cuffs in hot pursuit of the villains? No.

Did I expect they would at least make a record of the phone number? Yes.

Did I expect to be passed on to at least a junior officer. Yes.

Did I expect the information to be handled by a switchboard operator? No.

Did I waste time using the credit on my mobile phone and was the whole process a waste of time?

Why don't they make chocolate teapots?Angry

Love a good rant me ...... Best one I ever read, no idea if it was actually true, might be it is from someone who had been in HM Forces....went like this:-

Saw someone on my CCTV trying to get into my bike garage, called Police who told me they would send an officer as soon as one was free, I told them the robbery was in progress, they told me they had no officers available ...So I put the phone down in disgust. Then something got into me ...I recalled The Police told them i had just rung about a robbery in progress but it was ok as I had found my shotgun and dealt with the 3 perps and put the phone down, within a very short time an armed response team with back up appeared cornered the scumbags. Armed officer knocked on the door, obviously put out. "You said you had a shotgun!" to which I replied "You said you had no officers nearby!" ...made me smile wouldn't suggest anyone actually try it tho'

I was a bit miffed which is not quite the same as deciding to be Dirty Harry!LOL

PS Just had the same phone call from the same number as before...now blocked so I won't be troubling the police again!

Did Danny Kaye play Dirty Harry as well Bob?

I know that his favourite song was " Day Dream Believer"

My Dad who is 89 this year keeps a whistle by the phone and when he gets a scam call he just askes politely if they can just hang on for a sec, then get the whistle and blows it down the phone, they don’t generally call back. Although I don’t encourage him it does make smile.
Cheers Ian

"Did Danny Kaye play Dirty Harry as well Bob?"

I'm hoping that's a reference to Walter Mitty otherwise "What manner of place is this?"LOL

I don't think he needs encoragement. Sounds a good idea to me.

I had an 0800 number ring this afternoon, left the answerphone to deal with it.

Played it back, and just heard a female voice say "I'm not happy", then a bit of fumbling and it cut off. Checked the number and it's a well known marketing number. Confused
Brian.

There was a chap in the paper or the telly a couple of years ago who had a premium rate number because he was fed up with nuisance calls. He reckoned it was quite profitable.

I like the one when you pretend they have phoned a murder scene.

Personally, if I have nothing better to do such as when I'm surfing the net I like to keep the scammers on the phone talking at the same time as surfing. My theory is the longer they are on the phone with me the less chance they have of scamming someone else + I find it amusing when they realise I have been winding them up and they start ranting and cursing. My current record is just over twenty 27 minutes, it would have been longer but I had an appointment to keep.

Yes, that is the approach we adopted, provides a sense of satisfaction. However, we got so many scam calls after talk talk 'lost' our personal information, that we pay a small fee to the phone company to have an unrecognised number announcement service. Anyone calling from a with held or unrecognised number now has to announce their name and business which is then announced to us before we get the option to accept or reject the call.  We never get bothered by scammers now. I quite miss giving them the run around😉
