Well the Chinese starter arrived... Much smaller than the original due to the lack of field coils, but build quality inside looks good. Nice machining on everything, commutator finished well, lots of epoxy on the rotor windings and well lubed bushings.

Only thing which let it down was the poor machining on the pinion - its missing an angle compared to the original, and the surface hasn't been finished at all well. Lots of tool marks and sharp corners. So...I decided to see if the old pinion would fit as it was in perfect condition with no evidence of wear at all. After a struggle with the retaining ring on the end of the shaft, I managed to swap it over.

Haven't yet given it a go on the engine but it fits physically!
