Yes the hit it with hammer and it neatly falls apart exactly as desired is strictly for the experienced expert! Big smile For lesser mortals valve compressor is the way. Much less stressful.

I have one of these and works great on all my spada and lemans heads  I just put some tension on it tap end with hammer that breaks the taper seal on the collets and out they pop

I have always used one of the old Terry's valve spring compressors, but they don't seem to be available these days.

Blimey, that eBay valve tools cheap!   I've just ordered a chain link tool which costs a bit more than that and looks to be similar quality, on the basis that I won't need to use it more than a couple of times on my lesser bikes!

I tried one of those on my LM2, just bent without touching the valves - absolute waste of money, one made of chocolate would be more useful. When I complained the seller just gave me a refund and told me to keep/throw it.

I then went to Halfords and bought their smaller valve compressor (but still more heavy-duty than the ebay special) because I didn't want to pay for the big one but that wouldn't do it either and it was 'flexing' enough to make me think it would bend or break so I took it back and bought the big, heavy duty version which worked fine.

Buy right, buy once.

As for the heads, I'd recommend cylinder head services near Northampton. They were recommended to me buy someone on here and they did a first class job of K-lining my guides, recutting the seats etc. at a very reasonable price.

Regarding getting the valve seats worked on, see what they are like first, you might be able to get a good seal using the old method.
