Hi, I'm on the lookout for a half decent V50!
I don't want (can't afford!) a show piece or a Monza & it doesn't even have to go. Would prefer '81 or earlier model that is mostly complete & has a good chance of running. I would consider a swap (with cash adjustment?) for my BMW F800ST - 57 reg, £2200 - that I am selling due to wfh during pandemic & now being made redundant! Will try posting a "for sale" for that here, if allowed? If not, try searching Gumtree for "BMW F800ST, Clevedon" Edited by T3Chris - 17 Dec 2020 at 21:54 |

I know Ged Shorten of GCS Motorcycle Services (top Laverda man) had one a while ago, might be worth giving him a call. Good luck.

Hi Chris, I was looking for a V50 earlier this year ended up with a V35 11, no regrets, smashing little bike, might help to widen your search if you include the V35 and probably cheaper too, and of course the V65. Good luck.

Got one!
Thanks for all sugestions, but i now have a mk2 1980 v50 that was advertised on ebay. It's complete & in need of a little tlc. Cold out in the garage but I'm not in a hurry, need to find out what all the POs have done to it - good or bad. As it was manufactured in May 1980 I can't change the tax class to "Historic" till April - yes I checked with DVLA - so I won't put it on the road just yet. Somebody has drilled a load of holes in the ends of the stainless Keihan silencers, so that will probably upset the carburation & performance - as well as the neighbours! Brakes have also been de-linked & a 'bars mounted master cylinder fitted. I'm sure there are more mods to be discovered. |

It is 25 years since I sold mine to a pretty young lady who took it to France with her
![]() I messed with mine a bit but ultimately, other than swapping the hand-brake master cylinder for a bar-mounted one (I kept the foot-brakes linked) and possibly raising the handlebars (depending on your build) there is nothing that needs to be done. It is the perfect middleweight out of the box. Enjoy

Great news!
Do show us a pic when you start work. Yes I agree the bar mount master cylinder is a mechanical upgrade. I have had nothing but pain from under tank mcs. They tend to be beyond repair. If you like the look, which I can totally understand, I would opt for a new replacement rather than restoring the old one. A slightly smaller bore would help braking effort also. |

But don't use the V50 III bar mounted master cyclinder, find one with a slightly smaller cylinder diameter, around 11mm. Makes the front brake much better.

I fitted one from a Honda Silverwing which improved the front brake but it was still a bit wooden.
