Dear All,
In addition to breaking down the V35 has another issue for me to solve..

Recently I noticed a small trace of a clear fluid on top of the gearbox, in a little ribbed section that acts as a small tank!
Not sure what it was (it's under the rear brake resevoir and next to the gearbox vent ) I wiped it up and left it.
After today's very hot (and unhelpful) run there was more in the same area. It feels and smells like transmisson fluid.  I had already checked the gearbox level before setting off and only a little flowed from the level , now nothing comes out..
Are these fussy about gearbox level?  There can't have been much over the level mark, most bikes with tolerate this without chucking it everywhere.

The other possibility i s that the original drain from airbox to sump (no airbox now) has been capped off with a small filter. This however seems dry and sump oil is below max (it leaks from the alternator seal !!)

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Adrian

It's most probably coming from the gearbox breather. Apparently the amount was revised downwards to 0.9 litresbeacuse of this. Either use that amount or do as I did (and documented somewhere here) and fit an extension tube to the breather. I connected mine up to the engine breather system,

You're lucky it was only a trace. I used to get pools of oil between the webs.

It does come from the breather, little top hat device. I took the "hat" off and added a neoprene tube upwards to a point where water couldn't get in. No problem after that, and I still put the proper amount of oil in. (1 litre)

Thanks Ian & Brian,
So I guess it's a case of "they all do that Sir" rather than mine having yet another leak.. That's encouraging..
2nd time it was quite a pool, had just started to run down the gearbox housing when I got back...!
The engine breather was dry and the rocker box ones I have diverted towards the ground barely expel anything. Another breather pipe won't do any harm !!

If the breather is the same size as the one on the bevel box I'll try & work out what size & thread it is, get a spare plug and get my mate up the road to make me something. I'm afraid I lack both the skills and equipment to make parts like that myself..

Thanks again,

Adrian

I just stuck another short metal tube over the breather stub and fixed it with araldite.

Then added the flexible tube to that.
