Hi all. I need to helicoil the left side spindle thread. Does a one know the thread size.? I think it might be 1.75mm but not sure. Any advise or contacts would be appreciated. Tony.W-H
I'm new to this site & don't know my way round it yet.

Hi thanks for your reply. I've micrometered it. & it shows 1.76mm max on the outer thread. The narrowest inner thread reads 1.69. It's about. As accurate as I can get it.
Tony.

I'm confused as to which thread you mean, can you be more explicit?

Is the spindle 12mm in diameter? The thread pitch for 12mm bolt is usually 1.75mm but can be finer.

I presume it is the pitch you are asking about.

No it's 17.7mm it's a big old beast. The thread is courser than 1.75mm

Yes I understand that, I'm just trying to get my head around thread diameter and pitch. They may not be standard hardware sizes. Manufacturers sometimes make it difficult for us to repair things by using non-preferred sizes. I used to be printers mechanic, it could be a nightmare at times with manufacturers own threads.

Tony.

This has me puzzled. Is this pitch, or diameter with the decimal point in the wrong place?

Guzzi tend to use standard thread on most the swing arm is fine if this is the same as the Cali EV with hex head 14mm on one side i have thread pitch measure but if you take the spindle bolt to a hardware supplier they can use a pitch measure and supply the helicoil kit
Unlike the jap big manufacturers Guzzi are very small they use mostly standard stuff even electrical items are rarely one off, switchgear is same as many jap bikes the V11 Lemans/sport uses same as Firestorm the Cali EV are Yam cruiser, the tdc sensor same as Fiat and older 70's bikes charge sys same Bosch as BMW later bikes use Ducati charge sys, .... worst scenario is 1.75 heli and a die job done

I agree Ken about the unlikely use of non-standard threads, but this is Guzzi so you never know

Perhaps give Gutsibits a ring on Monday and ask them.

Well thanks all for your help. I've contacted a supplier of helicoil with as much info as I can. I'm also going to contact guzibitz I've always found them helpful. If I don't have any success, I'm taking spindle to an engineering firm to measure it. I will let you know the outcome as it might be of use to someone.
