Well, this is a new one to me. Sons Bike insurance is due shortly and having recd the renewal quote, noticed that cover excluded riding other bikes, so he asked for a new quote to provide this cover so he could, occasionally ride one of my old bikes.
No problem says man on phone. Three days later and no new quote, then a phone call saying the insurer has a BACKLOG  and it’ll be another couple of days.  Six days later, still no quote.
Perhaps I expect too much!

So how quickly will they be able to deal with any problems or queries that might arise. Cry

It's a pain but you have to trawl round them every time trying to ge them to quote for the same level of cover, no claims allowance, excess, definition of what is a classic, etc to compare.  If you have several bikes it's incredibly painful.  For several years I just made up a figure then went back to the first company and said that someone else had quoted me that and they usually matched it. Getting a bit harder to do now.

Riding other people's bikes (formally a given) has been sneakily removed from lots recently - so that Carol Nash can now offer it as a huge new enticement!

I got a quote from them about 5 years ago 'cos they had a tempting advert. They were about 250% over the competition at the time. Tell your lad to get into old stuff, it'll save him a fortune

I noticed by chance that my Carol Nash rider cover excludes immediate family. So no occasionally riding the wife’s Sportster or the brothers Guzzi - the main reason I chose the policy. Not happy

Peter James still includes the riding other bikes clause but as said it's always best to check.

Not helping you (iceni,) but noticed last year months after my policy had started with Peter James that they had sneakily removed riding other peoples bikes.
When renewal came around this year, I asked if it could be re-instated and they just agreed without any additional cost. Huh??

Possibly, but policy has been in force for six years without problems.
So far, ( touch wood) he’s also been claim free, so why not just refuse to renew if they don’t want his business.  I’ll be phoning them today.  I’m a named rider and up to now, I’ve handled the admin and paid the premium without any problems, but apparently I can no longer pay as the card has to be registered at the policy holders home address.

Insurance companies are being very picky these days about who they will talk to about a policy, all to do with privacy rules. My wife had to specifically tell them they could talk to me.

Update; Current insurer didn't get back to me so I've paid to put the X9 on my policy, then cancelled the in-force policy from the expiry date. Devitt didn't seem bothered, but they did issue a proof of NCD document immediately. Bit premature, as the policy doesn't expire til the 11th July.
I also added my son to my RH policy as a named rider on all of my bikes at NO EXTRA PREMIUM!!
