Yep, best advice these days is to rise above it if you can, easier said than done sometimes I know. Not because the law would look unfavourably on you because you  are a motorcyclist, unless of course you reacted to words or gestures with violence, but because it is not worth the hassle and of course as gentlemen and gentlelady Guzzi riders, we should be above all that common brawling in the streetSmile These days, they are likely to be carrying a knife or off their heads on crack or something anyway.

I had a chap in a van cut me up at the hospital, and hurl abuse at me and the wife and child while I was in my car,so I followed him up to the traffic lights stopped behind him got out my car and walked upto his door, yanked open his door,at this point he shouted “what you going to do about it”,I said”this”,turned his engine off, took his keys out the ignition and chucked them over the hedge into a field, then walked back to my car and drove off,I even tooted my horn when I went past, classy.

very easy to say but when someone attacks you for no reason only the fact you happen to be there you 100% give it common brawling in the street .I got away with a jaw that hurt for a few days lol

Totally Zen, I like it.

I have trained myself not to respond, but to ride defensively etc etc as the aggressor in a car has a real opportunity to do you serious damage. Still get shouted at, blocked and more when I make progress through a traffic jam.

Besides, I am 10 years older than the OP and built like his mate...

If I get cut up or someone does something stupid in front of me I NEVER blast my horn, gesticulate or anything else.

I call them a F***WIT under my breath and within seconds I have forgotten all about them and my day has not been ruined.

Getting involved is counter productive and pointless full stop.

Other opinions are available.

Looking at these replies I suspect that many of us did our tests in the 70s/80s and there was a hell of a lot less traffic about then, so some of the poor driving we experience now is down to people just trying to make progress.

However, it got so bad for me a couple of years back that I concluded that the Highway Code must have changed so I bought a copy to check.

It hasn't!!

So I guess we just need to take the moral high ground and ride defensively while giving them a good cussing inside our helmets Wink

This will upset some but I can't say that'll bother me much. The further you get out of big cities the worse the standard of driving/riding gets. There, I said it and the proof of this is the higher density of traffic in cities and the relatively low number of road traffic incidents compared with the countryside. There are exceptions to this and these tend to be where cars are actually manufactured, eg Birmingham, but being generous maybe that's due to the crap road system and signing.

Trouble is that humans are still not mentally designed to handle the stress of sudden confrontation and the old "fight or flight" reaction kicks in. However, being rational beings we should realise this and with a bit of effort learn to keep things in proportion. The twat in other vehicle is not really trying to kill you even though you may think that, but keep an eye on them anyway!Wink

Not all young people to blame. At Tesco checkout yesterday man well into his 80s barged in front of me and asked what am I going to do about it. I just told him to go ahead and have a good day.

Unfortunately what Bob says above has a strong ring of truth. A very large number of KSI motorcycle accidents are in the country where no other vehicle is involved.

Removing the prats (both drivers and riders) would make accident satistics far better overnight.

As one living in the boondocks I hadn't thought of it that way around - I guess there is simply less "opportunity" to get annoyed by other drivers out here

Thanks for the insight
