It was much more varied  in my childhood  I think . The  small mainly Yamaha  two strokes (I had a YG1 80cc, ,) and i used to lust  after  Honda 4 stroke singles,  CB100 , CD175,  CG125 ,  but instead I had the complete Mz range  TS125 , T s150 ( Iwon in a competition!) and the iconic Supa 5 250 MZWink
At that stage the popular bikes were UJM's  mainly 650 kwaks  and Gt550's.  The police upgraded from Old Triumphs to Cx500's but afaik  kept falling off them,  and then at some stage  Lc 350's appeared and I saw the odd CBX 1000 . 
Luckily I didn't buy an  lC , I probably wouldn't be writing this now if I had...
