"Motorbiking is not about power, or speed. It is about emotions."
Well put. I don't think my T3 is particularly loud or offensive in any way, but I too have listened to something on two wheels - bigger, shinier, and probably very long-distance capable - softly whistle past me, and thought something was lacking. But maybe they like the quiet as much as we like the V-twin sound... |

@omobono
Is that your excellent blog ? Top post, I really enjoyed that. You’ve got me seriously contemplating why it is that Guzzis in particular get into the blood. The noise is a huge part, the curves are for me too, which is possibly why I find the later square engine Tontis slightly less attractive? Perhaps it’s all about beauty. Well I’ve been smitten for the last five years now, but I could get my head turned though...if a lovely old roundcase gave me a wink

I remember the window cleaner coming down the street on his BSA sidecar outfit with the "Tradesmans" box on the side with the ladder tied on top.Probably an M21 or similar,thud,thud,thud.

Don’t know if I’ve ever posted this before but as a kid we lived in a Victorian terrace with long back garden. Our neighbour was a little Yorkshire man, WW2 despatch rider who had had one leg amputated having been shot in the foot when he was so cold, he never noticed till he finished the ride some hours later. Anyway, every morning he went to work on a Panther with a huge double adult sidecar attached. It always seemed to start first prod and the thump thump of it ticking over was right below my bedroom window. What I’ve never been able to work out is how he got it up and down the cinder path to the back gate

I spent my formative years in the sidecar of this bike. I think that's why I'm always drawn to the Norton singles......
![]() At that age my legs were too short to reach the gear lever. Probably a good thing. |
