Greetings

About to buy a pair of Lucas 12 volt coils from Vehicle Wiring Products.
Resistance advised as 3 ohms, my limited understanding was looking for 4 ohms.
What's all this mention of 'ballast' on some ads too?
Any advice much appreciated.

Kind regards

OE Marelli coils are rated at 3.5 ohm (20°C)

Ballast resistors are an ignition aid to cold starting, not relevant with 12V coils.

Hope this helps, it's T3-specific, I don't know about loops.

First of all are you running points or some other electronic system?
Assuming points, the coils from VWP will be fine.
If you have some other system best to check what their specification is, because if you put too low a resistance coil on an electronic system you can overload the output transistors.

As said above, the ballast system is where a 6 volt coil is used with a series ballast resistor. This resistor is switched out when the starter is engaged, so that you still get a god spark when the battery volts drop.
