    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 at 07:30
I need to replace the rear brake light switch on my 1995 California.  I'm presuming it's just a case of disconnecting the spade connectors; unscrewing the 2 screws holding the existing switch in place (I've been warned to put my hand underneath to catch the ball bearing); and then screw in the replacement switch (with ball bearing).  Is that it?

Just to clarify - it's the switch linked to the front brake lever!

A photo might help - if you can sort out the putting up of a photo.  Even if we know what the exact model of your 1995 Cali is, it is entirely possible that it is non-standard in some way, in which case a picture will clarify things enormously and enable people to help you with the switch replacement. Only brake switches I'm familiar with personally, on my own Guzzis, are hydraulically operated, which sounds like a very different kettle of fish to what you are describing!

I've always preferred the hydraulically operated switches but when they do fail you have to bleed again.

Barry - I took a photo but it was too large to upload.  I'll try again.

Calisteve - thanks for confirming that this is the part - now someone with experience with that same item can hopefully answer your questions. Regretfully, I cannot since this also confirms that we're not talking about the hydraulic brake switches (fitted to Guzzis) with which I am familiar!

FWIW: a picture is generally helpful, I'd recommend that as your opening gambit in any future cries for help - and it doesn't hurt to repeat your exact model details in each new thread.

"my Cali" for instance, covers quite the range of models and - speaking entirely personally - I have no idea which one (or more) Guzzi California models were produced in 1995 (or produced in 1994 and sold in 1995) - and even then, as mentioned earlier, many Moto Guzzis differ from stock in one way or another so what's fitted to one model/year may not be fitted to another apparently identical model/year (o:  Hope that's helpful to you.

It's probably a good idea to use a bit of blue thread lock on the fixing screws Steve. My NTX had a similar switch and it gave me so much hassle that I went hydro !
