Hi All
Just bought a 'renovated' Stornello Sport 125 1969 model and working through a few hinge to get it ready for MOT. Having problem with lights. Really need some expert help! Please!! Turn the key one way and side light & rear light all ok. Turn the key the other way and headlight and main beam work ok but rear light just won't work at all. What's going on??? Many thanks for advice to help diagnose and fix this. Or if there is someone in the east/southeast of U.K. who thinks they can solve it, please step forward. Even if I have to pay to get it completely rewired. Just want it working 😩 |

Looks to me as though the key switch is incorrectly wired. The rear lamp is ,it seems not wired into the main light circuit.Have you got a wiring diagram so that you can check which should be wired to what ?

I own/have owned various Stornellos, and when I get hold of them, there's always some electrical issue. These can usually be sorted out by going methodically through the wiring and the connectors in the headlamp, having firstly found the correct wiring diagram for your bike. Make sure the right colours are in the right terminals on the blocks. Also check that the wiring hasn't frayed or broken in the loom heading back along to the back light. They're pretty simple bikes, as are the wiriing looms, and it just takes patience!

Hi Dave
Thanks for quick reply. Got a wiring diagram and it all appears to be right. Do you have a Stornello? I'm just wondering if tail light should even come on when key is switched to daytime? Maybe it should only come on when key is switched to night? If that's how it should be then for sure the wiring is wrong. Really hoping someone can describe which lights should come on with key turned left and right, and maybe even take a few pics of the wiring (done right!) inside headlight. Thanks again! |

Hi 'italianmotor'
Thanks for the reply. As the rear light comes on when the sidelight is on, I figured the wire is intact all the way to the back. Just can't figure out why it doesn't come on when headlight and main beam are on! Various connections and wires inside the headlamp case were 'dodgy' so we've done quite a lot with the soldering iron - but haven't changed any connections. Just made them solid where they were. Can you answer if rear light should come on in unison with sidelight or only with headlight? You don't happen to have any pics of how the wiring should look? Cheers Rich |

From memory, rear light should come on with key turned to other the right or left, but not in the middle.

OK thanks. That's what I expected but needed to ask someone who has one of these bikes that's fully working. Definitely a gremlin at work somewhere in mine, as my tail light only works in unison with sidelight. Grrr!

There's no lighting switch on these then?

If the switch is wired correctly then perhaps a continuity fault within the switch.

According to the wiring diagram there is a light switch. However there are three wiring diagrams, for the Scrambler, Stornello 1 and Stornello 5.
