Hi Guys, Would like
to ask for help… I just
bring home new baby – Stornello J BUT I have problem with model /
year identification (no papers with bike L). I read thread about VIN, at this
forum, but have no clue as at VIN isn’t any model identification prefix. I am
trying to find out model to check what is original and what isn’t… Have anybody
any clue what it should be? Also, If you see at photos any problematic parts - please,
let me know. My idea is get it to original configuration. I love
Guzzi but new guy at old bikes problematic... Thank you!!

Hi The first letter N on the engine denotes a Stornello 125 Turismo four speed made between 1960 - 1968
There should be a Letter N after 'Moto Guzzi' and before the star on frame number if Stornello 125 Turismo. To get a more accurate year best to contact the Moto Guzzi club GB, they will date for cost of 25 UK pounds or free if you join club. machinedating@motoguzziclub.co.uk Photo below shows what it should look like |

Thank
you GEORGE S ! I agree it should
be TURISMO, but I am bit confused why "N" is missing on the frame...
Do you have any experience or IDEA what it should mean - no model identification
on this bike? Its possible its frame from another model (SPORT,SCRAMBLER...) I
checked documentation and frame looks matches TURISMO model (frames looks all
same for all models??) . I will try to put down paint around VIN and look for
some clues if somebody re-stamped or sand out this letter... Second question,
do you have any idea if TURISMO was officially also made with "low"
front fender? Because I found few photos on internet where low fender is used,
but no mentioned at any original GUZZI documentation. For now, I
identify two points which actual state of bike doesn’t match TURISMO model -
rear dampers (should be tubed) and front fender. Rest looks OK for my point of
view. Do you have any idea what should be else problematic? As bike doesn’t have
any documentation, I would like to match a original state to highest possible
way and then ask local authority to put it to process to get “veteran” registration plate to legalize it on
road. Its only way here (Czech Republic) how to put bike back on road. Thank you Joe PS: Also thank you
for idea about MG GB date service. Will try it! |

The information supplied by George S is correct. I've owned a few Stornellos, and I think yours is probably a Turismo from around late 1966/early 1967 where changes were made and new Stornello models brought in (America/Scrambler), and I think your Stornello also got the new lower mudguard and chrome spring rear shocks, both of which are correct for the bike. There should be an 'N' prefix, maybe you'll find it under the paint? Try the Guzzi Club dating service, or if not, apply to Moto Guzzi directly to be sure. Great little bikes!

That looks great. The VIN code number below the frame number IGM11730M matches my Turismo. As mentioned previously, it should have an N before the star and the 63NC. My Sport frame has IGM22730M and a T before the frame number. If you are being an anorak, it has been fitted with Sport model front forks and mudguard, it should be like Georges and mine. But the Sport model looks better so I wouldn't change it. I have a collection of Stornello information in my Dropbox You can save what you need from here... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/to0esx2zkuig1o7/AAAlY4VDEglF3x3NkpVuPxFOa?dl=0 Edited by Don-Spada - 25 Jul 2020 at 19:47 |
