Afternoon all

I'm leaning towards fitting a valve in the feed to the stepper valve

Can anyone tell me what bore it should be please

Cheers

Do you mean the bore of the tube? Think that's 6mm.

I fitted an electric isolating valve (intended for petrol) and found the 3mm internal diameter made cold starting difficult. I bored it out to 4mm and it improved considerably.

Mine is fully automated, operated by a thermostatic switch on the cylinder head which closes the valve at 70 degrees celcius.

I was hoping you'd reply Brian as I know you have done the mod and you have captured what I was thinking about.

I'll see if I can find a 6mm valve

Cheers

Yes, that sort of thing, mine came from ebay and was rather less in price. Also the 3.5mm bore of the smaller one might be too restrictive.
Do an ebay search for 12 volt solenoid valve.

Wow
I just blocked mine off, only downside is you need to keep the throttle open a touch when warming up or it will cut out, only takes a minute to warm up enough to idle

I had difficulty cold starting with no air going to the stepper motor. But I suppose I should have held the throttle open a bit.
But the selling point was you just had to hit the button and it would start.

mine will start ok but the idle is just too low for a minute or so. so it stutters and offends my sense of mechanical sympathy!
to me its no problem as its just a case of hop on and go. first roundabout more than 7 miles away first traffic lights 25+ miles I guess if I lived in a town it might be different
