    Posted: 19 Nov 2017 at 01:09
Does anyone have any advice about how to use the side stand?  Specifically, I'm quite short so reaching that thing is not easy.  Maybe I just need to learn the technique.

Is there some sort of modification that would make it easier to reach?

I responded in your 'welcome' thread, where you posted the same question.

Just a tip - when asking for any technical advice (in a new thread), you're always going to need to tell people what model you have, and - in this case - whether you have the stock sidestand fitted. If you don't, you're likely not going to get usable feedback.

Master the art of sharing a photo here, too. A picture paints a thousand words, as the saying goes, and if people can see your bike, and see the state of your sidestand (deployed), they might just have the exact answer that you seek.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions.  They're very helpful.  I'll try to remember them in the future!

I can remember at one time in Scotland carrying a forked stick in the tankbag to push it down with.

No I'm no joking. Shocked

Then later, a block of wood to put underneath.

Much later again, I got fed up with all this faffing and put a California sidestand on.

Especially after bike fell over while loaded up...

EDIT: wasn't a new model tho so seems not improved that much since?

To follow up on the sensible suggestions I received after posting my question about my side-stand, here is a picture of the side-stand on my 2003 California Stone.  I'm not in the groove yet about how to post pictures on this site.  I've got more pictures.

Lovely bilke. I like mine too!

I have no probs with the stand but my legs are long. Hopefully it’s just needs a bit of practice. As stands go it’s a rock solid design. You could weld a tab on to hook up with the bottom of your boot but I don’t think you’ll need it. Mine actually had a bolt welded on for this purpose (I think) but I cut it off.

From your pic that black wire "loop" If it is similar to the one on the V11 le mans it was held with 2 bolts and is slightly longer than that one, take a look at the workshop manual free on the greg bender website you will see the item and figure out if it is longer. One thing I do is always look at other bikes when at a rally or show for inspiration , I found stuff like the switchgear on Later Calis are sae as Yamaha cruisers "Star" range the switches on the V11 Le mans/sport range same as on Honda Firestorm ....etc etc
