The pipes and silencers on my V50 had seen better days but were good quality stainless (Keihan). So I decided to have them polished. I used a company I'd used before for plating: http://www.chromefix.co.uk/
£195 wasn't cheap but I think you'll agree a very nice job - indistinguishable from chrome. Polished: As bought: |

Wait till they get hot again. Stainless always goes a straw colour when it gets hot.
But vinegar and aluminium foil rubbed on it will get the shine back.

2nd image looks like a gun blue which I like,
You can get an acid to turn steel blue if you don't do the hot oil dip, but never tried it with stainless. My own pipes are rusty chrome so was considering a wrap... on the other hand get them on the machine wire brush to strip the chrome and give them a brushed finish before gun bluing may be an alternative?

Stainless does indeed go brown but unlike rusty chrome pipes can easily and quickly be smartened up with Solvol or similar.Stainless every time for me.......when I can afford it.

Or if Solvol proves expensive, crushed aluminium foil dipped in vinegar does the same job.

It's not the price of the Solvol Brian. It's the cost of replacing the complete rusty exhaust system of the GT 850 with stainless.

Or just ride around with brown pipes of course. I actually have a beautiful chromed mudguard for mine, exactly the same pattern as OE but came from a Benelli. I never fit it for fear of it rusting - my Veefer is mostly a winter bike.
