Anybody got a 50cc scooter for sale in the East midlands? I'm in Grantham.

My other half's job has changed and she needs to get to the station but not absolutley certain about a moped. Looking for a cheap one to try out before taking her A1 licence for something larger.

PM me?

Cheers

Sean

might be worth checking out a few facebook groups, things for sale and motorcycle jumble, you often see mopeds for sale cheaply there, especially in this cold weather, but make sure she carries a decent lock, and if its a good one fit a small tracker

How far is it? An electric bike might also be a possibilty.

could be electric.  Just seen
a piaggio 50 with 350km (yes 350) . He wants £ 600 for it but it was registered in 2002. Worried about rotting seals and things.

Having gone thro` about 20 scooters in recent years as a sideline to bolster my pension the saying "you get what you pay for" is especially true for mopeds.
Chinese scooters are `throw away` items
Italian scooters are usually good but inconsistent with regards quality
Japanese scooters, even those built in China, are usually of better consistent quality
There are odd ones that buck the trend ie. SYM which most charity get to work organisations use because of a reputation for reliability.
As with all things a look at the second hand market will tell you what holds its price and what doesn`t.
The main thing to remember is that most 50s will have been owned by a 16 year old wanabe mechanic with little or no money to do proper repairs or buy quality oil for instance

Thanks for the advise - went for the 17 year old piaggio in the end - knocked him down a bit. The scooter looks as though it had just been delivered. I remember a neighbour a few years ago bought his son a Chinese 125 motorbike - he was always fixing it. I think some parts of it were made from tin foil.

I bought a chinese moped for my daughter to learn on. Damned thing wouldn't go over 28 mph. I bought it in east Kent and had to ride it home to Surrey. Took about 4 hours, very slow on some hills.
I discovered the exhaust had a 10mm id tube in the header part. Stuck a 13mm drill down it and it would then do about 35 given enough time.

Apparently the newer ones are limited to 28mph - the older ones 32mph.

She's talking about doing her A1 test now so she can get a 125 and not catch the train.  See how she gets on with the 50.  At least it's Italian!

The guy who was running her CBT was appalled at how slow it was.

She could just do a Saturday morning CBT to ride a 125 at less expense than A1, it just means she`ll be on L plates, but she could keep taking it every 2 years

Had this with me daughter.

" Daaad, I wanna scooter"

" See your Mother" (expects her to day no.)

" Daad, Mom says YES" (*uck)

Time passes.

"Daad I really want a motorbike" (new Honda CG125 sourced last of the kick start ones,( that'll knack her)
but it doesn't. I start it for her or if she's out they are queuing up to start it.(Rothbury)

So if you can't beat them join them.  53 I was and broke me ankle on the CBT didn't know it, just carried on and passed. On Sunday morning down the local A&E.

Gets meself a new Honda CB500S (restricted two years) to go out together.
Can't keep up on the twisties she's miles in front. They must have taught her more than me.LOL
