Mixtures burn, they don’t explode. Consequently having a single spark plug over a very broad pistion crown means that the mixture at the edges of the piston are the last to ignite.

Various shaped piston crowns and squish chambers try to overcome this by swirling the mixture and encouraging a full and complete burn, hence more efficient.

I can’t see how this device helps spread the ignition of the gases further or quicker as the spark remains in almost exactly the same place despite the ‘pre combustion chamber’

Now, IMHO twin plugging a tonti is the way to go to get a more efficient burn

I do however want to be wrong on this as it’s an Englishman who invented it

I'd like to think they are great, we need something to sell to the rest of the world. They can't be any more useless than the Spitfire thing you put in the HT lead, or the bits of lead to put in your tank!

Something in the back of my memory tells me this idea came out at least 50 years ago. Never caught on then.
If you think about this, the spark will ignite the small charge of mixture inside that cap. It then will progress through those little holes and into the remainder of the combustion chamber. This has got to delay things.

Indeed! How on earth do you remember all this information Brian? I find these days that I have to forget something to make room in my tiny mind to learn something new, only the other day, I forgot how to wash up and so had to leave my dirty coffee mug in the sink for my wife to wash up...As far as the plasma plug is concerned, it won't work. If out did, Honda would have been fitting them as standard for years to their bike and cars.

I remembered seeing something way back, the rest is down to Mr Google helping.

Can't remember what I did yesterday of course.

The logic of this idea seems to be sound and I can see its appeal but not at £120, however the possibility of reduced exhaust gas temperature especially for the V50s etc. could mean no more petrol additives. Now that`s a thought!!

The Pulse-Jet sparkplug gizmo is not very convincing (as stated above), but it steered me to this

Really for curiosity's sake, but much more convincing.

That looks a bit like the old diesel indirect injection system (although of course diesels don't have spark plugs.....)

It's hard to imagine how masking the spark in a perforated chamber is going to help or speed up

flame propagation...   Apparently "a bottle of red and some cheese" helps.  I bet it does...   Ermm

A bottle of red and some cheese always helps, it may not solve the problem but it certainly makes it less important!!

Plenty of happy people on BMW oilhead (2 valve) forums  ,   maybe a bit of crowd funding with a before and after dyno run and fuel consumption  test would  be the way to go !!!!
