I replaced the TPS on my 2009 CAL VIN with the Harley part. Much less expensive and my  local dealer had one in stock.   I think it fits an older  Road King

Has anyone tried to use this TPS on a Harley Davidson with Part number 27271-95

Thanks

Are people changing these just for fun, or are they a common failure item?
Can't say I've heard or read of any going t*ts-up . . .

I used to work at the company that made these- CTS. There are about 6 versions, but if its a PF1C, its the same on a car or a bike. You would not want to know the mark up on these!!! Shocked

PF3c was fitted to the Ducati monster I had ,the  PF1c was fitted to the Ducati S2R 1000 I had after that ,both are silly money from Ducati but California Cycle works make them for around £50 , I fitted a calcycle PF3c to the M900ie I had and it was fine .
As a point of interest the PF3c is none linear and the PF1 is .

Basically there are linear, dual slope , both in clockwise and anti clockwise variants. Dual slope have adjustable mounting .

On a semi-related note, is resetting the TPS really required before doing a TBS?
If so, is there a simpler less costly way to reset it than buying an expensive sw or hw to do it?

Thanks.

Waste of time resetting the TPS before the balance.
The Guzzidiag software is free. The cables are very cheap.

But you can also go to the Guzzitech forum and buy the Technoresearch software Todd sells, it will cost you a couple of hundred dollars.

I have Todd's Flash Tool.  Nowadays the FT is US $ 500.  I bought mine when living in USA.  I have used the FT to reset the TPS although I bought it for Todd's ECU remap since my 1200 8v is de-catted / non standard pipe,  it suited me because I don't have a portable laptop and every part I needed is in the box.  Todd held my hand thru the reflash and the TPS reset without his support I'd still be struggling to ride with the factory map

Thank you again, Brian. Glad to hear the TPS was not required. Being very new to MG and having limited experience as a "shadetree" mechanic, I was a bit confused initially. After doing some research on my own and visiting different sites, I was able to come to the same conclusion.

I did end up purchasing the OBD2 to 3 pin adapter which I am hoping I might be able to use with my OTC scan tool. If not I will look into getting a KKL to USB cable because I'd like to try the free GuzziDiag tool which I am really curious about!

One thing I am still uncertain about is my ECU type. Based on the GuzziTech.com info, Stelvio should be 5AM but if someone can confirm or correct, that would be super!

He is highly praised and seems very knowledgeable but I used his shop for my manufacturer required 600-mile service and had a not-so-great experience so I am not likely to use his services again.

Also, I am not doing well financially which is why I do most any maintenance/repair work myself, and I like it too.

My Stelvio wasn't running too badly but I could tell it was a bit lean and rough at acceleration. I did end up getting fuel optimizers off of eBay and it resolved the issue for me. I also recently take out the canister and tip-over valve so, now, it is running like a beast!

I am sure his ECU flash is very good but I don't think it is worth it for me since the bike is running well enough. It kills me that I have to spend hundreds of $ just to revert back to silly stuff manufacturers do to make it thru the Federal emission regulations so the bike runs the way it should. Angry [/rant]

What has to be adjusted on a throttle position sensor if the holes aren’t slotted? I’m getting a surging at a neutral throttle position and another Guzzi owner said it’s probably a bad TPS. He said to get it at a H-D dealership since their much less expensive.

What bike is this?
On the earlier modes the TPS could physically be moved to adjust, on the later models you use computer sotware to reset.

Too late for you now maybe, but for anyone else, don't use these 'ECU Foolers', they can screw up your Engine long-term.
They basically 'fool' the ECU into seeing a lower Ambient Temp, so it throws more Fuel in, which washes the Oil Film off the Bores, and degrades the Oil.

It's so easy and cheap to remap our Guzzis (much cheaper than the plug-in gizmos), I don't understand why anyone would fit one?

The way I look at it is this;

You have some stones in your Boots, that make it awkward and uncomfortable to walk.

Do you;

A. Put on two or three pairs of expensive padded Socks (the ECU Fooler Unit).

B. Remove the Stones (Remapping).

If it's Fuel Injected, I think my comment is still valid.
As I understand it, all any of those things do is crudely richen the mixture.

Have you looked into remapping it?

May not be as easy as the later Engines, but still worth doing if you can.

I don't know about the quality of this really cheap part. Some months ago I bought a similar one, TOPRAN 700814, for ~14€, which does a perfect job in my V7classic.

Inho, it is not a good idea to use a different type of TPS instead of the original one. One should not use an adjustable type where a fixed type is prescribed by the manufacturer, because there are no means for an adjustment provided in the ECU.

Does anyone know of someone in the western Pennsylvania area that works on fuel injection on an 01 Moto Guzzi. I was told by another rider (maybe questionable info) that it’s a bad TPS (potentiometer) I don’t even know how to check it (maybe with an ohm meter). I’m a mechanic and could change any parts necessary, but this is my first Guzzi and I’m clueless about this system. I was shocked when the previous owner showed me that it has a “choke” for cold starts. I’ve never had a fuel injected motor in any type of vehicle that had a means of fuel enrichment.

The workshop manual may help. Select your model from the list and look for the TPS sectin.

There is an English version in that compilation.
The one for the EV, 1998-2002 is in English plus another 2 languages.

No, this is not a choke, no enrichment action!. It's a simple mechanism to open the butterflies slightly, in turn raising the idle speed.

You can use GuzziDiag to check the TPS. Make an auxiliary dial and a little pointer from self-adhesive tape, tick spacing 5 or 10°, then stick this to your twist grip and grip armature. Run GuzziDiag, select the correct bike model, and let it display the TPS values. Make a note for the TPS angle or voltage at each dial tick, then draw a little diagramm and check if you don't have strange steps or jumps; the curve(s) must be straight/linear, depending on the TPS model.

IAW 15RC PF1C is the selection for my V7classic, yours has to appear differently. Afaik GuzziDiag offers 3 Cali EV models, at least.
