"Sarry heid" Long time since I heard that, as a young Buddie we used to go up the City at weekends to do pub crawls as well as playing all around "Glesga" in Bands in 70's and 80's.

Well, looks like I've got a foot in both camps here. Would I have a problem buying a bike with a new engine after 16k ? Absolutely not. As has been mentioned it was most probably due to the cam follower situation and as long as it's been done right with the appropriate paperwork I would see it as an advantage. Have a look at how many early GS water cooled have a replacement engine.
As for the 'Gulf' paint scheme on Magwa's bike. It was definitely not done to cover anything up. I bought that sport as a fully serviced but slightly unloved bike. My initial intention was to keep it so I did the work to the highest standard that my abilities allowed and the paint scheme was purely a personal choice. However I enjoyed the renovation process so much that I decided to sell the sport and buy another project. As has been mentioned that project turned out to be another unloved 1200 this time an 09 Stelvio, and yes it is very close to being finished. Maybe not to quite the standard that I did the sport to but it's still turned out very nice with any thing that was corroded or broken being either cleaned, repainted or replaced. Which includes fully rebuilt front forks, new rear Hyperpro shock, exhaust off a much lower mileage bike and a new rear light cluster. Fully rebuilt front brakes, every service item either serviced or replaced including swing arm bearings. I reckon it will still be the cheapest Stelvio in Europe at around £3200. But alas it will have to go as I'm picking up a 2016 Stelvio in the morning.

Assuming it was due to the flat followers, the Guzzi warranty repair would possibly leave swarf in the system, so a new engine is far better than the warranty replacement followers.

Brian that was my thoughts also, rather have a fresh new from factory roller cam engine than a repaired engine with the doubts about how good/conscientious the mechanic was allowed to be when the warranty work was done?
So if it has a factory roller cam engine, does that mean it would have been originally destined for a Griso or Stelvio? |

Possibly, but the hardware is much the same. It would have retained the original ECU.

I agree that a factory replacement roller engine is better than a roller upgrade as you don't know the skill of the tech who upgraded it and there's a possibility that the flat tappet debris could be still in the sump, the new roller engine fitted to this bike would have been destined for a late Griso or Stelvio as the Sport was already discontinued, if it was me I would want to see proof that it had a new engine from the factory and not a used one, maybe talk to the previous owner who owned it at the time, and even remove a valve cover to check it has rollers

Bear in mind, even a private ad must be accurate. If it says a new engine that must be the case. If it turns out to be untrue, you would have an easy claim against the seller.
The engine number would tell you quite a bit. If you had the VIN, you could go to any Guzzi dealer and ask them to check the history. Possibly you could contact Guzzi customer services for the same information.
