I had been wondering when the ironing board mounted spray booth would re-surface on this thread
Hyline, There is a bike sprayer in Bristol who quoted me £400. However a mate had his Velo tank done just outside Cheltenham for £200. Just gives you an idea of whats available. I thought the Bristol bloke was a bit dear, the Cheltenham one a bargain, I think his price included the pinstripe. |

I painted my Guzzi using rattle cans, which sadly doesn't give a petrol resistant finish. However by using 2K clear top coat in a spray can from the German company SprayMax (400ml cost around £15) which is more than enough to give three or more coats of a tank I ended up with an excellent tough finish. Takes a lot of time prepping the tank, etch primer, primer, colour coat, decals, clear top coat and finally cutting it back and polish. But enjoyed the process and £65 spent is better than paying someone else a lot more. There's lots of advice on Youtube on how to get a good result.

That looks excellent. Does the aerosol clear coat contain isocyanates or is it safe to use without special equipment?

I would imagine it does contain isosyanates, so the necessary H&S precautions should be taken.
If not isocyanate it could be amine, which is also pretty bad, all 2 packs contain a curing agent in my humble and professional opinion should always be used with the right equipment. Alan. |

Yes, having read the safety sheet I think I'll steer well clear.

Its 2K paint so sensible precautions are needed. You don't want to be breathing it. A decent mask and well ventilated area was my approach. I waited for a still sunny day and sprayed in the entrance of my garage. It sets quickly in sunlight. Also once the paint has been activated in the can (via a button in the base) you've only got a few hours to use it before it starts to harden in the can. Colour is Ford Radiant Red - v similar to Ducati red
Here's a coupler of youtube vids I made of the paint process.. |
