Keep an eye on your credit card bill if you have a PayPal account.I checked my credit card account yesterday and found that someone has been buying clothes using my PayPal account. The bank and PayPal are on the case so I'm hoping for a quick resolution and refund. What I don't get is that this stuff was bought by mail order and that Hermes couriers have the fraudster's address, as do I, as Hermes emailed me to advise on the delivery time to that address. A strange world we live in for sure.

I hope you get it sorted. I had a similar problem a few years ago and found the response from PayPal very poor. I've avoided them since.

I had a similar problem a while back with VISA, was advised of a "suspicious transaction" by mail before it  even showed on my account. Nevertheless, my account was then charged for a 600 euro bill at a travel agent in Holland. I was reimbursed after 3 months. I'm positively anal about credit card security, but even that's not enough apparently !

I had a Visa Debit card cloned some years back, but the bank reimbursed me almost immediately.

PayPal has sent me an email stating that they have looked at my complaint and can find no irregularities, therefore, case closed.
So someone has bought goods to the value of £180 without my permission, using my account, and that's OK?
My bank did warn me that this was lightly to be Paypal's attitude.I'm not sure what I can do about it but I'm not going to let it rest.I wont be using their "services" again either.
Actually,I'm a bit peeved.

I had someone in London charge a couple of bottle of champagne to my bank account. The bank eventually paid up but denied all liability on the basis that their systems were infallible so it MUST have been my fault!

Basically someone stole from you and the the paypal let it happen.

Not much help I know but Keep on their case and I hope you get it sorted out. Its not worth the bad publicity for them.

If it was through your credit card, do you not have the possibility of claiming on that?

And as you have the other address, have you informed the police?

The bank has told me that if I get no joy from PayPal they will refund the money. However, the fault lies with PP and I feel that they should accept responsibility.I haven't informed the police as I wouldn't expect them to be remotely interested, especially now as they won't investigate shop thefts if the value of the stolen goods is less than £200.

You ought to inform the Police, not because they will do anything, but to ensure you have a crime number to give the bank and Paypal, and also to try to get the crime statistics correct.
If crimes are not reported it allows the Police to claim they clear up more than thy really do.
Presumably PP are claiming that you ordered the goods to be sent to the different address.

You have a point regarding the police Brian, I shall reconsider.
I've done a little research regarding PP and have found the following.
When contacting them by telephone you get the usual automaton asking questions many of which are irrelevant, but.....If you say the word "Agent" quite emphatically, you are transferred to a human being.I tried this and it works!!!
So now, my human being, Sam by name, has "escalated" my case and it is being further investigated.Sam assures me that I shall get my money back. We'll see.

My Paypal account is linked to a low limit credit card but when I was the subject of a fraudulent transaction in America Paypal finally refunded my loss after a lot of complaining on my part.
My main point is that thro` Which Legal (one of the benefits of my Which magazine subscription) I had good advice that included the fact that my credit card company was not liable for money transfers to a third party ie. Paypal. They recommended direct payment for goods by credit card instead of Paypal because there is more legal protection offered under English law.
The trouble is there`s not always a choice especially on Ebay etc.

I'm curious what's happened here . You still have control of your paypal registered email address but someone else is logging into your paypal account and changing the delivery address ?

Hope you have changed your password. If anyone uses the same password for PP as they do in other situations, it is possible for a third party to work out the password and log in to your account.

It is outrageous that PP won't take responsibility and do something. This is theft pure and simple. I am absolutely with Brian on reporting it to the police also.
