As a footnote to the stud extractor business.I got the partially functioning extractor to work (release oil and a couple of thumps on the bench !)and have found them to be very useful. This morning I have removed every stud from the crankcases and head of a particularly bent, buggered and bedevilled 1947 Sunbeam S7.The extractor set made the job much easier and quicker than it otherwise would have been.
So,a recommended addition to the tool kit after all.

Hi Johnno. No, it's not mine. My retirement hobby is landing myself with other people's classic bike problems. It keeps me busy and very oily.

A fair guess Derek but no it's not.It belongs to a very nice young fellow who has really been ripped off.By his own admission, he knows nothing about bikes and paid top money at some dealer's for what is a completely
worn out bike. It's a mass of bodges, cracked castings stripped threads etc.
A bit of a long term project really. Not the best introduction to classic biking but not unusual either.

Ayup Dave, I had an S7 years ago, a strange bike with terrible handling and an overheating rear cylinder, the cantilever seat was a work of art but sadly under engineered for my svelte form. It cost BSA dearly and the designer, Ehrling Poppe was sacked on the spot. The early black S7's with the inverted levers are quite rare I believe.
Wasn't there a company near you who were the mecca for all things S7? Stewarts was it? I expect they're long gone.

Mornin'Phil.
This particular bike is a very early model, inverted levers and all. It's No 314 and it's very much abused. It appears to have been internally lubricated by a mixture of molasses and sand.
Stewart Engineering were indeed very close to me at the village of Harbury near Leamington Spa.They are still going strong and are now based in Poole Dorset.

There must be 2 of those - a guy at work has one, although I've not seen it for a good while.
