I want to buy a new "flash / light" relay for my LM1 which has the terminal numbers 87, 30/51 and 85 on it. I cannot find a new relay which has the correct numbers on as 51 isn't shown on any new ones that I've found, although I have found some used ones on Ebay with 30/51 and they are very expensive.

I've looked up the terminal numbers using the DIN 72552, which lists the "standardisation" of terminal numbers and number 51 isn't listed.

I suppose that this number is now obsolete, so which relay would I buy to replace this one?

Yes it is an odd relay.
Good news is you can easily use a normal 12v 30A relay available from most motor spares places. This will have connectors 30, 85,86 and 87.

Going with the colours on the diagram, the Grey wire from the handlebar switch goes to 85.
The two blue and the red wire go to 30 and the green wire which goes to the headlight to 87. You then need to link 30 to 86.
Brian.

All the relays on the LM1 and similar age models, I presume, were a strange earlier design.

The headlight flasher relay is even more strange, having only 3 terminals. What's missing is pin 86, so you can use a normal modern square relay, but need an extra bit of wire between 30/51 on that diagram, and pin 86 on the new relay like Brian said.

Here you join 30 to 86, and 30 takes place of '30/51':
