I live in British Columbia/western Canada, and it`s quite normal where I live to have temperatures in the high 30s making riding somewhat uncomfortable at times, but those days don`t last too long and we can usually find cooler weather in the mountains.

But right now we`re being smothered in smoke from forest fires.
Last Friday there was maybe one fire of significance, with about 50 or 60 other smaller ones.  Then a cold front went through and blasted us with lightening.  140 new fires in one day.
Some have hit 4000 ha. in size, a number of communities are evacuated, 14,000 people so far with a town of 10,000 on evacuation warning if the winds shift.
Some of these fires went from nothing to over a thousand ha. in one day.   Most of the big ones are completely out of control.  A number of small ones, in remote areas, are being ignored due to logistics.

Even though it`s down to the low 20s right now we have our A/C on and all windows closed.  Air quality is usually measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worse.  Today in Kamloops it hit 17!

Anyways, here`s a couple of sites for those interested in reading about current life in western Canada,

Thanks, but the summer is still young. The forecast is promising if you want a suntan. If you're a firefighter or own a home near a fire, not so good.

Here's the forecast for Kamloops.

The whole west side of North America from Canada thru Washington, Oregon and California is really dry and hot.  Everyone is getting their share of fires.

Here`s a good clip of a fire just west of our city last week, just before the province exploded.  It shows some close-ups of the planes dropping water and retardant.
Just excuse the 14 seconds of advertising!

And this one was taken yesterday by some people driving through a fire northwest of here.

Here's an update for those interested in life in western Canada.

In my original post I stated a few things, they're here with updates:
Some have hit 4000 ha. in size       One fire is now over 90,000 ha.  That's over 200,000 acres.Nuke

A number of communities are evacuated, 14,000 people so far     We hit 40,000 evacuees to date.

Air quality is usually measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worse.  Today in Kamloops it hit 17!   Today, Aug. 3 it hit 49!

The biggest fire, The Elephant Hill Fire, started on July 7 is about an hour west of us.  No threat to our city, yet.  But it's the one causing most of the smoke issues.
Speaking of smoke issues/air quality, fine particulate matter was measured at 684.5 today.  China considers 300 to be hazardous.  What I would give to hop on a plane and fly somewhere else.  Even China!

So we have to keep our doors and windows closed with the A/C running constantly so it can clean and filter the air, even with the temperatures down at night due to the sun not getting through the smoke during the day.  Cars are somewhat helpful in filtering the air, but motorcycles.....Thumbs Down

So the Norge sits in my garage, waiting and hoping.Cry

Not much fun. Southern Europe is getting extremely hot weather at the moment, and there have been many wild fires, but not on your scale.

You should try Scotland, we've had enough rain to put all the aforementioned fires out in one day.

But there are ways to keep a guy's throat from being parched...Beer

On the slightly lighter side, we here in western Canada have had some success putting fires out.  This happened the other day about 4 or 5 miles downriver from me.
