My BMW K1100RS has just recently had a catastrophic engine failure,
My only options are to have the engine repaired, or ditch it and buy a used one, but whichever way I go, it's going to cost me over a grand.
So I got to thinking, do I need 2 bikes.
The BMW was there for two up duties.
The Griso is just for me.
So what about combining 2 bikes in one.
Having just got into Guzzi's, I can't see me wanting anything else in the foreseeable future, so I am starting to think about rolling together the touring ability of the BMW, and the fun / character elements of the Griso into one bike, and getting a Norge.
Problem solved, and just one bike for everything.
I'd be looking at an older Norge, and a quick scan of ebay has revealed they can be had for about 5/6 grand.
I should be able to do a deal where the balance to pay is no more than the BMW would have cost me to fix.
Any Norge riders here like to comment on their bikes, particularly all round ability, (for solo blasts and two up touring),
Any issues with the earlier one's.
I'm not committed to this yet, but would appreciate some input.

I have a 2012 8V - only problems for me were the stuttering and snatching at slow speed, think the Stelvios also suffered, but Finbau unit sorted that.  great bike, goes like a bat out of hell if you want it to, or will sit at 80 all day long.  never used it two up so cant comment.   no regrets from me on getting one.

had to change the screen to a Skidmarx larger one as the original directed the blast straight onto my visor/face but apart from that no other issues

What's a Finbau

My budget wouldn't stretch to the newer one.
I'd be looking at an early model if I decide to do this.

I have owned a Norge now for 6 years, ridden it for over 46000 miles. Its the earlier 2v per cylinder model, and I wouldn't swap it. Take the luggage off and its sporty enough to see most sports riders off. Put the luggage on and it carriers more than a Pan European. So its just a super all rounder.
As to issues, nothing engine wise, just keep it serviced, its had 2 sets of outer plugs in, still running the original inner plugs.
It has suffered the grease famine issue in Italy, (and didn't get any at its first service by moto strada either. (It was their bike before I bought it.) so I put new swing arm bearings in, and replaced the bottom suspension pivot at year 3. I also fitted the later rear shock, that made  difference to the rear ride.
Earlier this year it got an intermittent no start problem it was the neutral position switch, the connector came loose, just a squeeze with the pliers on the spade and it was fine once more.

I have a 2v sport, owned from 2007 - it has now done in excess of 50K, and goes like a train, be that a blast around the local B roads or Cannes next stop.
I looked at the Norge and the Griso when I bought it. I didn't like the seating position of the Norge, too upright for me, and too much plastic should it fall over... or get dropped (I was coming from a VFR and had dropped it at low speed, and caused literally hundred of ££s of damage to plastic.
The Griso is great, it looks totally amazing... but its range was not quite what I wanted.... every 100 or so miles looking for fuel in France on a Sunday - no thanks :(

So I picked the 1200Sport.

Be aware there was a recall on the 4v ones, the new ones are sorted, but if you are buying 2nd hand make sure the cam followers are sorted by a dealer, and the paperwork is there.

Well I've put a toe in the water with the Norge.
Found a few for sale in dealers, but have been getting some real mickey mouse offers on my Griso in P/X
I think I'll leave it, but thanks for the input.
I just love my Griso too much anyway.

Tell you what Vmaxer I do not think the Norge would hit your spot, Have to say one reason I have the 2 Guzzis is the V1000 hits the touring , chill cruising /kool spot the V11 Le mans my "Old Rocker", hooligan, lets go gerrit type grunt type thing, I really like both of them for totally different reasons, thing is now an old knee injury is making the usually comfy V11 not as nice and when I looked at the actual miles done last year "only" 2000 ish on the V11 which for me is very low, so I am looking at selling it as it just passed the MOT and have a Cali on the back burner ...

Fix up the Beemer and keep the Griso.

I wanted a Griso, but bought a Norge for touring. Shoulda bought the Griso for the fun. Its an everyday bike, which the Norge isn't. Or not for the short of leg rider.

Sold the Norge. Would have kept the Griso, mind.

I have just toured Europe on a 2014 Stelvio NTX. Loads of leg room, loads of luggage space, and its very powerful. Not ridden it 2 up. I think the only downside is the weight, and the low revs reluctance to runsmoothly and pick up. But it is better than my old Breva v1100 in that regard. I am making enquires about the Finebau and Power Commander devices with a view to improving the engine running at low revs and over-fueling on overun.
I have just joined this forum and have had a great deal of help already. THANKS.

The Finebau kit works talk to them as it will not suit some bikes in the Guzzi FI range

Some interesting points of view on here .... can't see why the Norge isn't an every day bike though. Mine is. Short run up to the shops or a trip across country, it's just so much fun to ride that every day isn't in fact often enough. As for not having one because plastic is expensive, I have two points, don't drop it .... and please, tell me what bike isn't expensive to mend if you throw it on the floor
That said, I wouldn't tell anyone to get a Norge, or any other bike .... it's personal preference. You know what you like and what you want it for, I have no idea what will suit anyone else. All I can say is mine suits me.
