My old 99 cali ev. When I came home the other day I stopped the bike so I could open the garage. When I went to start the bike, the neutral light was off. Pulled the clutch in and it started. Never thought about it again.  Today I went out to start her and the neutral light wasn't playing ball. Jiggled the gear lever and no joy. Bladdy bulb - here we go. So, i stripped the covers and swapped the bulb for a working one. Still no neutral.  The switch? Covered in crap and salt ? Whats the procedure for fixing it folks? I can't find it on the forum.
Also, the charging light bulb is ok but never comes on. I never worried because it seems to have charged the battery. Got an easy fix for that too?   help a brother out...Hug    John

Hello, the neutral light is fed current from the loom and turns on when the switch which is a copper strip earths out inside the gearbox, when the bike is in neutral. Over time they tend to straighten. If you take it out you can bend it slightly to get it to make contact again.

The charge light is different the bulb fed current as for the neutral light, the other wire (blue) comes from the rectifier. When the bike is not generating enough current the blue wire effectively becomes an earth and the bulb lights. As the revs increase the current from the rectifier balances out the supply current and the light goes out. Have a look at the blue wire on the rectifier and see if it is connected or needs cleaning.

Best of luck

You have to take the switch out of the gearbox, you will then see that copper strip.

But first of all check the connection on the outside of the switch. This can get manky and stop the current flowing, thus no light.

Charging light, as Chris says, probably a connection, but it is connected to the reg/rec and is actually only an indicator so would not affect charging. It'll be the Ducati alternator.

Brian is correct the metal strip is inside the gearbox and part of the switch, as he said try the connections first. The switch is on the left side of the gearbox behind the starter motor relay. the single purple wire to it could be manky, try it and clean it if required. If that doesn't work connect the wire to an earth and with the power on and the bike in neutral the neutral light should work. If it does you problem lies within the switch, if it doesn't light up then it is the bulb/bulb holder/wiring to and from the warning light at fault or both.

Update of sorts. Neutral bulb is fine. But doesn't work in neutral. But...when I prod the starter the bulb lights weakly for a second or so.  Anyone got a pic of the switch location.   Yours lazy are.

I just can't seem to find it. Angry

It is behind the starter relay on the left hand side of the gearbox, probably hidden by the starter motor relay cover if one is present.

Just a mention about the neutral light issue. I had a few other jobs to do, so waited till today (wifes away - not that I'm scared or owt! or need permission...just sayingOuch)  and dived in. Undid the battery and the starter motor. I found the neutral switch. It was loose and also the previous owner had soldered the 2 wires into the blade connector. And the solder had cracked. I'll fit an M5 round tag to it. if it doesn't improve i'll make a better connector.
Also (eventually ) got my manual fuel tap from gutsibits (after a bit of an uncomfortable error on their part) and fitted that. I think the electric one is jammed half open or half closed?  hmm very Zen

But I also want to swap the old fuel pump for a new one I have. It looks a reet baskit to do.  So. Here goes anyway.  Its just the bike for those winter bimbles...Big smile
