We got caught up in the closure of the A21 yesterday, being diverted up a slip road towards Sevenoaks.
Understandably, traffic was stop start, and as we entered the slip, a motorcyclist filtered slowly down the outside of us.  He was riding carefully and there was plenty of room for him all the way up the slip.
Directing the traffic was a police officer, standing by a small directional sign, and as the bike approached, at the last minute he dragged the sign and stepped right in front of the Bike. Ok, it wasn’t dangerous due to the fact the biker was riding slowly, but he had to stop, then get round the sign and the officer.
I don’t know what was on the officers mind that made him do it, but I thought he was a twat.Thumbs DownThumbs Down

Where do you go to actually see real police Johnno?  They always seem to be on a high speed dash to the next 'incident', often in convoy.

Where I live, in Beeston, the scum have taken to stealing locked pushbikes from the centre of town in broad daylight. Apparently there's not a lot the police can do about it... Well how about patrolling Beeston, like you used to do?

IMHO the Police force has been cut-back and over-regulated to the point of being virtually useless.

a few years back I saw a youth throw a brick into Debbie's car window , I caught him and pinned him to the ground until the police arrived . I was then informed they only had my word on what happen but they could see I was causing pain to the 19 year old youth so it would be easier to arrest me than charge him . Afterwards they drove the youth home who was laughing his head off at me . Since then the police have let the area down where I live so many times you just have to laugh how the drug dealers go about business

Long story short;  In the 70’s there was a series of major military exercises with convoys going through Colchester, who’s movements were published and promoted for public viewing in the local press. One Saturday afternoon tanks were being transported to Harwich, so me and my son, who was about 10, set
Off on the GT 750 Kettle for a pleasant ride and to view the activities.  Once at Harwich we stopped on the grass verge, helmets off and sat on the grass to await arrival of the tanks.  After a while we were approached by a member of the forces told to move on.  We were quite a long way from any check point, and on our own, so I asked why we were being evicted, and upon being given no good reason, I declined to go, stating that we wouldn’t interfere with the proceedings, and that my 10 year old was looking forward to seeing the tanks.
The officer left, but after a while, I decided that discretion was the order of the day, so we kitted up and I then rode to the public car park.  I’d hardly got the bike on the stand when a police car flew up to us and an officer began to threaten me with being in contravention of the Terrorism Act, and with the distinct possibility of being immediately arrested.  I explained that we were just out for a Saturday ride with the bonus of seeing the tanks, the movement of which were published for all to see, that we posed no threat and that we were in a public car park freely accessible to the motorists etc.. none of this cut any ice however and proof of identity was demanded and phone calls made.  Needless to say, my 10 yr old was getting really scared by all this, so upon being told to get on my bike and f*ck off, I did,  but we watched the convoy a few miles before it got to Harwich so mission accomplished.  Not a pleasant experience though, and a lesson learned!

We do still have the finest police force in the world, just limited common sense these days, like all other UK/EU institutions, including the one I work for. I would rather be arrested in this country than any other, although I do my best to avoid it!

The problem is our press. The police are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.

In fairness, a few doesn't make a lot.

We, as motorcycle riders, don't like being tarred with the same brush as the moped thieves, so equally I'm sure the majority of police, who are also often just as frustrated by the courts as we are, don't like being tarred with the bone idle brush even if a few are.

Brian.

Hear hear.
My wife who kept her nose to the grindstone for 26 years in the West Mercia police service would agree. She got just as frustrated with the Crown Prosecution Service,  the courts etc. failing to support victims and officers as everyone else. Of course the victim still blamed the police service.

I couldn't agree more Chris. I retired in 2003 after 31 years in the job and I now despair at the way that a visible Police presence has all but disappeared.

As for the CPS, we quickly worked out that it actually stood for "Can't Prosecute,Sorry"!

As for that Iceni bloke though, it was obvious to everyone that he was going to be nothing but bother from day one.
