Apologise in advance, as I suspect this has been discussed many times before, but....

The exhaust downpipes on my Lario are pretty rusty and look rubbish.  I have a pair in chrome (well, was chrome once) and also black chrome (ditto).

Has anyone had any real success in painting downpipes in either shiney silver or gloss black please?

Otherwise I'm considering buying stainless pipes from Armours (Bournemouth) - any experience with these guys?

Armours have been going for a long time now, never heard anything bad about them. There are many other companies who do stainless systems though.

I tried painting my V50 pipes, but it didn't really work, I used matt black. You can get other finishes, but at what cost compared to new stainless pipes I don't know. Any paint you use has to be capable of standing the heat.
Brian.

I found "Zebo Black Grate Polish" imparts a satin almost gunmetal finish on "tired"  exhaust pipes.

Zebo,  good God, a blast from the past.  50 years ago i had the job of a Saturday morning of Zebo'ing 7 fire grates in the local big house my mother was a cook in. it took me hours to get it done right (anything less was not allowed) and i always ended up with hands from the Minstrel show which would be stained for 4 days - just in time for the next weeks rubbing.  didnt know they still made the stuff, remember it look like a Zebra stripe on tube and it was highly poisonous " remember - dont lick it" - like you would !

We were that poor, if we had a fire it was the cardboard box we lived in that was on fire, we were black, any other colour was not allowed, food was bruised fruit from the local green grocer, that was 60's style food bank, eventually we acquired an extension in the form of a Kelloggs box, pure luxury in those days,

times were ard then! LOL

I tend to use matt black exhaust paint for the first 6 inches with grate polish on top, then a satin black BBQ paint the rest!
