I've got my new speedo drive on the front wheel. If I tighten the spindle nut to 9 Kgm. The brake caliper left hand side ( sitting on the bike ) will not line up.
Also right hand caliper rubs disk.
My bike is the 1989 V65 sessantcinque GT.
The spindle fits from the left ( sitting on bike, Through the whee,l speedo drive, spacer and fork.
I seen another reicent thread I agreed with. But the speedo drive is next to the wheel else the tang won't reach the wheel.
Ive just refitted the old one. the left caiper lines up but the right one still rubs the disk.
I've came out the shed in disgust. ConfusedConfused
I'll get their soon

Have you got the little spacer between the bearing and speedo drive?

Which side of the caliper is rubbing on the disc?

You say the LH caliper doesn't fit when you tighten the spindle, but surely that fork leg should float on that end of the spindle, you tighten the clamp bolt after tightening the spindle nut. Best if you pump the forks up and down before tightening the clamp too if possible.

If the RH caliper is then too close to the wheel, one of the spacers is either missing or the wrong length.
But check there are no shims fitted between the caliper and fork leg.
Brian.

So had a quick look this morning. It looks as if the wheel is pulling too far to the right ( when sitting on the bike.
Spindle goes Through left fork( sitting on the bike ) washer, Wheel, washer, speedo drive, spacer. then right fork.
don't know if this is correct.

IIRC from my youth, fit wheel, insert axle, fit calipers, snug up axle bolt, grab front brake and bounce forks, torque up axle pinch bolts on both sides, bounce again to check for free movement of fork and brakes aren't binding then finally torque up the axle bolt.

In the case of a V50/3 which I think will be identical to yours it is essential that the left side spindle fits as pictured and that the clamp bolt is tightened up before tightening the spindle nut. The spindle shoulder is the reference point for where the wheel fits with regard to the calipers. In my case I don`t remove the calipers when removing the wheel. If you have fork brace fitted then that can sometimes spread the fork  legs or even pull them closer together.
