After the battery stopped charging on the T3 Cali I spent the journey home fretting over how long it could keep running with no charge. Wiggly amps knowledge has eluded me all my life so could one of you more intelligent people out there give me some idea please?

Ah but do you know how long the piece of string is?
Depends on the capacity of the battery, how fully it was charged, and the load. But assume it's the standard-ish 30AH, and the ignition takes about 4 Amps, divide 4 into 30 and you get the number of hours before the battery is totally flat, assuming full charge to start with. In practice it will be less than half that because things stop working when the volts drop too much, and then add occasional use of the indicators and brake light. Of course if you had the headlight on too it would be less than half again.

= 7.5 hours is theoretically possible but don't turn any lights on, disconnect brake switches, and only use hand signals. |

7.5 hours would render the battery totally flat, zero volts. The ignition will stop working long before you get to that.

Thanks very much chaps. I did turn the lights off and resorted to and signals but had no idea how long it would power the coils for. I've printed off the generator thread from here so will commence my diagnosis tomorrow.
