On the G5 instrument pod, the 5mm screws thread into the plastic base. One of mine had stripped its thread in the plastic and so I was anxious about the others.
Never having used helicoils in plastic, I wasn't sure how well it would work. 5mm helicoil kit arrived half an hour ago, job done. I did use a pillar drill to accurately drill out the tapping size hole, but no other special kit needed. I could have use longer screws and nuts, but the helicoil method is way neater and they retain the captive thread making assembly/disassembly easier.

Absolutely better then the org, but one tip is NOT to tighten the nuts too much. I swapped the OEM ones for some allen headed bolts with a wide head like a washer built on got them from "Steves stainless" at one of the shows, they work real well keep the damp out I do have thin rubber washers under them.

Good info, thanks for sharing. (I'm sure I'll need it one day, just hope my memory lasts!)
