Saw this 1200 SE being given a new map at my local dyno yesterday. One of the few modern) bikes I'd consider buying. It was fitted with Guzzi's 'official' Termi pipe, which sounded good without the baffle. Though it was being tuned with the baffle in place.

It made 84 rear wheel HP with a map 'downloaded from the internet', which didn't give good results, hence the owner brought it in for a custom map. Sam the dyno man thought it'd make about 100 at the rear wheel with the new map.

I will have to ask what it did make, as I couldn't stay until the dyno work was completed.

One thing I wasn't impressed by was the paintwork, the decals weren't lacquered over, and it felt as if you could pick them off with a finger nail.

Anyone else had their bike dyno'd?

Not my Guzzi  , but a good few years ago I had my R1100S BMW on the dyno , recorded  82 bhp although I reckon it would be better now.  I also put my then 350 Enfield Bullet  on  , I won't bore you with the detailsLOL

I wonder where the map came from...I had my 1100 sort carb dyno’d, I think it made 88hp or so. I was disappointed but the bike felt really good to ride, Raceco silencers and crossover, and jetted appropriately.

Yep.  Had my Griso 1100 dynotuned.  The difference is amazing.  80hp, 61.78ft lbs at the rear wheel but the rideability in the midrange is so much better now.

Remember theres a difference between hp and bhp.  bhp is always a calculated guess, hp is at the wheel.

Sounds all very exciting, but mustn't forget more bhp = more stress on the revolving bits

Check out dyno disasters on YouTube LOL

Thats not really how tuning works though.

You can't make much more power on stock parts.  The power comes when you change components, then you go on the dyno to optimise those parts.  As long as you don't run it critically advanced / too lean / to rich or rev over its limit there's not much else you do wrong.

Oh and I was mistaken, as the Griso made low 90's rear wheel HP, not 84 before getting a new map

The majority of bikes that go on the dyno run lean, as they need to pass emission regs, then folks fit an aftermarket pipe which makes it run leaner (and hotter) still. Adjusting the fuelling will give more power throughout the rev range, and reduce temps in the engine.

If this is not your Bike then why would you criticise the choices made by the owner which should really be between them and the dyno operator?

Re your dismissive comment re the Griso stickers they are notorious for shrinkage on the tanks, the worst thing that anyone can do is try to smooth them out as they will split.

I dont reckon he was being dismissive about the Griso   just a simple comment on the quality of the sticker.  As we all know Guzzis are not always 100 pcent on quality fiishes

I'm really curious now as to what the final output was.  Because if my 1100 claims 91 and I got 80, and it claims 112 and only gets 84 there's something wrong with someone's numbers.

This is rear wheel figures from my 1100.

With the old ones it used to be whatever "at the crankshaft not the rear wheel". But at quick glance always made the specs look better.

Just got a call from the shop owner asking me to delete this thread as the owner has seen it and is not happy at all. Which was never my intention. There doesn't seem to be an option to allow me delete a post on here, so could a mod do so for me. Cheers.
