I sold this bike about 9 years ago to a friend who never really did much with it, I've just swapped a mechanically perfect but not pretty R100RT which was my winter work horse for the last few years for the damm thing, it still needs the clutch changing as it’s very abrupt in operation and the cam chain adjusting both just as when I sold it, the chrome work is tired and just about every bit of rubber is crumbling away but other than the replacement silencers and the clocks its amazingly original and runs perfectly, I’m undecided at the moment about what to do with it cosmetically but I’m simply going to use it over the summer, thing is once I change the clutch, sort out the abysmal headlight and fit some decent switchgear to the left hand side am I going to be brave enough to take it to Croatia then Mandello on the way back this summer 😬

I'll bet most of the headlight problem is lack of adequate volts to the bulb.

Looks good to me.
You have the decent switchgear already so you have. What you don't have are aerofoils on the front crash bars. I have some fibreglass ones from the last batch I had made. £25 inc p&p. Cheers Min |

Well, in my case - - - - I had two weeks booked to ride to my nephew's wedding in Croatia during June 2016. Then my grandson's mother became very ill, so I was needed for (admittedly very pleasant) childcare duties in the UK instead. I never did do the trip, and now I'm experiencing age-related health issues which inhibit my ability to ride at all, let alone do a trip to Croatia. You did ask! So yes, Keef Mayhem et al, do it while you can is my opinion, for what it is worth.

it is low voltage, it’s dropping about 1.5 volts at the bulb so a lot of light output lost, it’s an old cibie Zbeam so shouldn’t be too bad, I may just run a direct feed from the battery to the headlamp and control the hi/low via a relay from the switch and fit a newer bulb and see what it looks like then 🙂

Sorry to read of your disappointment regarding the Croatia trip Johnboy.
As you advise,"Do it while you can" I'm off to Corsica next month knowing that it could be the last such trip or,looking on the brighter side, the next in a continuing series of tours.Who knows? |

Thanks Dave P. I had a great time with my grandson, so life has, as ever, its compensations. Anyway, I'm over the disappointment now - almost. -

1.5v drop will make a huge difference to light output. A relay is certainly the way to go.

I rode my G5 to Breganze via Mandello on a 15 day odyssey two years ago. Never missed a beat in heavy Alpine rain and tarmac melting Italian roads even though my legendary extensive preparation for the trip took less than an hour. The G5 is one of the best all round bikes I've ever had, it's got spokes, points, steel petrol tank and a pig ugly dashboard to discourage thieves! So be brave Keef Mayhem, I'll be in Mandello in July, I'll look out for you.

Gorgeous colour, I'm a sucker for green. And the bike looks good too. If you redo cosmetics you will worry about it getting dirty. I would have just make it tick.

I quite like the green myself, I think I need to service it next as I’m sure it wasn’t as lumpy as it is at the moment in the past, I’m off out on my lemon 4 at the weekend so will be able to compare it with that 😬
