Evening folks,

I have been trying to get the engine bolts out of my V9 Roamer to fit engine bars. To say the nuts are tight is an understatement. The hexagon at the outer end is small which does  not help causing the hexagon bar to flex.

I have tried hitting the nut with a hammer , as is common to free rusted nuts, but to no avail.

My local Guzzi dealer says the new Guzzis have massively strengthened thread lock on them and could offer me no advice other than what I have tried.  He had not taken any engine mounting fixings off the new Guzzis.

Nothing I have tried has had any effect - extra leverage, extra strength , a heavy hammer - is there any thing, like a chemical or something which , if painted on the nut would eat into the thread lock to loosen it?

Many thanks and ride safe.
Cheers Mick

If loctite permanent is used on threads this can be made loose with applied heat, powerful hot air gun best, be careful with paint finish. (Maybe wife's hairdryer will work if you get on well)

I had same problem when changing brake discs on BMW. Ended up using plumbers heat gun

Yes, bit of heat on the end of the bolt. Worked removing the disc carriar bolts on my Spada III.

Thanks George and Brian.

I will try with some hot air; I have been reluctant to do so because of the paintwork but I have a heat gun which may be suitable.

Hello folks,
Engine bars now fitted. Normal hexagon key did not work but I found a socket which I put a short hexagon bar in and used the extended bar on the socket. The extra firmness of the socket and bar prevented the flex of a hexagon key.

No heat needed. Thanks again

Cheers Mick
