how do I change the fork springs? 73 Eldorado with single drum front. Lots about stripping these forks on the net but cant see anything on springs. Hooefully straightforward?!

It's all in the above link. You don't need to go beyond the spring removal stage unless you intend to replace seals etc. Getting the stanchions back into place after having replaced the springs is the difficult bit. I have a tool specially adapted for the job but you can use ratchet straps I believe. Good luck.

Thanks Dave, managed to miss that one despite looking on that site many times! So you have to remove the forks from the top yoke to remove the spring. My enthusiasm is temporarily dampened but I'll get to it sooner or later. Many thanks!

It really is not such a hard job, hardest bit is undoing the chrome shrouds which you need as much heat as you dare which helps to release the old dried up o rings. Good luck.

That is difficult, or can be. But to simply change the springs it ain't necessary to go that far.

Yes Dave your right you don’t need to remove shrouds to replace the springs, sorry for misinformation. You only need to remove shrouds if replacing oil seals.
Cheers Ian
