Hi,
Just about to buy some relays and sockets from Pyro Dan, initially to replace my starter one (plus one spare). But as shipping costs more than the relays, I'm thinking I should order more and replace any other relays on the bike as it will be easier to use just one type in future. I've also read that some re-wire head lights & horn with relays, to reduce voltage drop. Seems like a good idea. I'm also considering adding additional fog/driving lights, but frankly this is enough to consider for now However I'm not too familiar with my 1000SP yet. So hoping someone can sanity check this. I'm thinking:
Does that make sense? Anything else you'd add? Links for Pyro Dan should anyone need them: https://dpguzzi.com/socket.htm Edited by Jalfrezi - 07 Dec 2018 at 09:49 |

For the headlight you need one for light on/off (normal relay) and another to switch between high and low, (which is a different type of relay). You will need one to flash the headlight unless you link it to the headlight on/off relay, a spare is probably a luxury.

I have now looked at your link and the relays will do both jobs, on/off and switching

I have recently bought from Pyro Dan, lovely chap and very prompt service.
However, I have recently been in contact with : https://towzatronics.com who supply all this stuff in the UK and they do wiring as well - maybe try this?

Headlight relays are well worth while, you will get more light on the road ahead. Unless you are changing the normal horn for a high power one, then a relay won't make much difference. Regarding the wiring of the headlight relays, the simplest way is to use two normal relays, one for main beam, one for dip. You will have to cut the two original wires (main and dip) somewhere near the back of the headlight. The wires from the dip switch go to the coil terminal on each relay (85) and you need to connect the other coil terminals (86) to earth. You then run a new cable of decent thickness direct from the battery positive (via an inline fuse) to the main contact terminal (87) on each relay, then connect the wires you cut going to the headlight to the appropriate relay terminal 30.

There should already be a relay on the starter circuit on the 1000 SP. However you can make starting more reliable if you rewire that relay as shown in the Click no Crank topic in FAQ.
