Hi
Can anyone tell me how to remove the indicator and light switch from the handlebars.
These are the early Le mans type with the rolling lights switch.
All internally wired.
So far I have removed the grips on the left side removed the lock washer. But I cannot pull the wires through or remove the rolling switch.
What am I missing.

Any help very appreciated.

If memory serves(a rare occurrence)I think there is a small Allen type grub screw holding the switch onto the handlebar.I sold my 850T over 25 years ago so I may not have got that right.

I don't know if this will be of any help.I was probably thinking of part number 16 on page 25.

the grub screw yes part #16 that is what holds it ....best replacements are Yamaha ones as the rh switches are about 1" wide and you can use the Tomaselli throttle ..... when you redo them wire then externally, you do have to undo the top handle bar clamp to feed the wires through it is an absolute pain too In that manual as you scroll thro shows how they fitted right gear change and left foot brake .....

many thanks, I had undone the Allen grub screw and moved the clutch never mount forwards.
I'm just afraid pulling on both switches is bound to do damage somewhere.
I wanted to keep switchgear original as I have purchased a new old stock indicator switch as mine isn't working.
Is there an order on how to remove the elec cables, as surely sliding back the light switch assembly blocks the wires on the indicator assembly??
Coming through the bars.
Why did they make this so difficult...

bars finally removed, what a pig if a job.
Once I removed the cable sleeve. The cables came out to show a few bits if DIY wiring skills somebody once did.
It's amazing it never caught fire..
Now off to the chroming guys for the bars to be done.

When you re fit do yourself a favour, keep wiring outside the bars, it makes way more sense, I understand the "keeping it original" but if you are actually going to use it regularly my advice is wire up modern switch gear, newer guzzis use same as Yamaha.....keep a set of oem stuff wired up then easy switch if you sell or really go for a conkers look .... the inside the bars thing seems a great idea but wires chafe on the centre holes and other places, never seems so good an idea if you are stuck in the pourin' rain in a remote area with electrikery gremlins going beserk

Can't find pictures of the original set-up. Are these high bars?

High bars, more a mid height imo, anyhow i got them off and now at the platers to be made nice and shiny again.
2 Weeks quoted so along with the grab rail this should be the last of what i need to start rebuilding the bike into a single piece rather than couple of big boxes.
very strange set up removing the switches and cables from inside the bar, glad this isnt going to be something i do regular, but certainly a learning experience.

Same as Le Mans, and I can't remember what you do with the connector plugs.

Hi Mike
The connector plugs are all molex so you use the special tool and remove them one by one.
That was actually the easy bit, pulling the wires back through is another story.
Can't wait to refit them, that's bound to be a joy..
