Hi all,
I hope you can help me with this small problem without pics. If necessary I will post the pics during the weekend, when I next drive to the garage, in order to better describe the issue. My 1000 SP has that old strange seat that is kept open (for example, to access the battery) with a little metal stem. You take one end of the stem out of its seat, fix it to the bike and it keeps the thing open. This is not dissimilar from what happened in many car hoods before the advent of those pneumatic systems they often use today. Now, my stem tends to get loose and fall on the ground as on the seat side it is too "loose". I seem to remember that there are little metal things that you slide along the stem and "press" against the point where the stem meets the seat itself. That little metal thing is made in such a way that, once inserted, it makes it impossible for the stem to slide out of place because it makes it impossible for the stem to slid through the "hole" and come out the other way, falling on the ground. However, I have no idea how those things are called in any language, much less in English, and I have tried on Ebay but have not found any pictures that I recognise. Can anyone help? Thanks a bunch Omobono Edited by Omobono - 23 Aug 2018 at 11:41 |

A star washer might be what you are thinking off. I doubt that it would totally do the job you want it to do though.
Something else that works for me, to keep the seat rod from falling out of its locating bracket, is a small cable tie, tightened and clipped off in the obvious place, and then - as added security - a blob of epoxy glue to keep the cable tie in place. Be inventive! You're a motorcyclist and a Guzzi owner, right? |

Funnily enough, I had to open the seat on my T3 Cali last week only to find that this little stay had disappeared. The best solution would be a small hole drilled though the rod for a split pin with a washer behind it.

I agree that the drilled hole and split pin solution might be a more permanent and effective solution, but can offer that my temporary solution has lasted sufficiently that I've not yet been reminded to around to sorting it!

That must be how come I've found a spare one in my Guzzi spares stock It's funny how you never get an irate car driver stopping you because a seat stay/indicator/silencer(in the case of Meriden Triumphs) has just hit his windscreen. |
