Hi, any thoughts about tyre makes and size.
On my V50 II 1980  Standard rims .
The manual shows 90 on the front
and 100 on the rear.  Is that the maximum you can go on standard rims or are you able to fit slightly wider tires. Would that bring any benefits if you were to do that or only cause more trouble .
Thanks.

I think the standard sizes are fine. Fatter tyres actually tend to degrade the handling, especially on older bike designs, as they introduce more flexibility between the rim and the road. They're also of course heavier increasing unsprung weight.

As I understand it, fat rear tyres are necessary on modern bikes to increase the amount of rubber so they don't wear out so fast (although someone will no doubt tell me I'm wrong).

When I had a Norton Commando, it was well known that a 3.25 section front tyre instead of a 3.50 gave more precise handling.

The frame on the V50 (and on all the earlier Guzzi models) is designed to work with those tyre sizes.

Change them at your peril.
