I crashed the Griso last year and have bought a used from wheel, used forks and new brake discs - EBC wavy ones.

I am fitting a brand new axle, and the wheel has been fitted with brand new bearings and seals but using the original right side spacer and centre spacer.

Here's the problem.  The new discs are jusssst skimming the calipers!

The good news is the skim is equal both sides - calipers shouldn't be damaged.

Now here's my proposed solution - to shim the axle.

The only issue I can see is that while the right side (spacer side) shim will buff up against the spacer, on the other side it will be up against the rubber seal.

Can anyone foresee any possible issues with this plan?  Any better solutions?  As the forks need to be spread, spacering the calipers won't work.

Update:

Nope, the shimming wont work on the non spacer side.  Not only that, but there isn't enough thread on the spindle to accommodate the spacers.

It seems the EBC brake discs step out a little from the hub.  Thats taking them off centre, and EBC won't accept the returns because they deny that there's a tolerance issue.

Can you skim a little off the mounting surface on the wheel?

Thats one possibility, I'm a bit nervous about doing that though.

I just found out that although EBC lists VR621 as the part code for Griso discs, the database at Gutsibits says VR614.

I can't imagine why, but the EBC site refers to RH and LH parts

They aren't actually different are they?

I worked out what the problem was.

The used wheel I bought was from a 1200 which has radial brakes, not axial like my 1100.  Its 5mm wider across the hub.

I have the correct wheel now (y)
