Having got some time over the weekend to work on the bike, I have discovered that this particular housing could never drain back to the engine as the boss for the drain wasn't opened all the way through. I then checked the one on my ntx 350 which has the same section on it's unit but isn't required to be used so it is blanked off with a little rubber end cap.

Hello Alan - from the forum input to your original query it would seem that the V50 air box should have the free moving ball at the boss. Checks on my air filter boss revealed that the ball is missing (as currently is the air filter breather pipe). Subsequently I intend to fit a ball bearing held in position by a suitably sized disc.
Do you have a rough idea of the diameter of the ball in your system?
Best Regards - George.

p.s. do you (or anybody on the forum) recall exactly how the breather pipe is retained in the end cover?
Take care - be aware

On my V50 I fitted a flap valve from a vacuum pump, it worked well.

Hi Brian - thanks for the reply. Do you have any suggestions where I might try to get something similar to the flap valve that you mention.
Best Regards - George.

Mine came out of a vacuum pump from a diesel car. Round with a lightly sprung disc in the middle.

Brian - I'll see if one of my diesel fitter friends has something suitable for me to use if that draws a blank I might go down the road of a floating ball.
Thanks again for the info - George.
